Major Aquifer Study: Ogallala Formation, northern High Plains

Water samples from 108 randomly selected domestic water-supply wells completed in the Ogallala Formation

  • Samples were analyzed for about 170 water-quality constituents including:
    • physical parameters
    • dissolved solids and major ions
    • nutrients and dissolved organic carbon
    • trace elements
    • pesticides
    • volatile organic compounds
    • radon
    • tritium
  • The purpose of this study was to provide a broad overview of ground-water quality in the Ogallala Formation of the northern High Plains aquifer.
