Geophysical logging of confined-aquifer wells in the San Luis Valley, 2000-2001

Study Area: The San Luis Valley in south-central Colorado
Period of Project: October 1998 through October 2000
Project Number: CO40402
Project Chief: Daniel Brendle
Cooperator: Colorado Water Conservation Board, Colorado Division of Water Resources

BACKGROUND:

The confined-aquifer water-level network of the San Luis Valley consists mostly of privately-owned wells in Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Rio Grande and Saguache Counties. The network includes about 40 wells. Lack of information on well construction and lithology and zones contributing water to the wells limits the usefulness of water-level data presently being collected.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To obtain geophysical logs and borehole videos in wells in the confined-aquifer water-level network operated jointly by the RGWCD and USGS.
  2. To document well construction and lithology and define the zones contributing water to wells in the confined-aquifer water-level network operated jointly by the RGWCD and USGS.
