Stormwater Runoff Monitoring Study Area: Denver Metropolitan Area, Colorado BACKGROUND:The Colorado Water-Quality Control Division issues municipal stormwater permits to the cities of Denver, Aurora, and Lakewood for water quality in segments 14 and 15 of the South Platte River. Part of the permits require the development of an urban runoff monitoring program that addresses total maximum daily load (TMDL) issues. The Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) prepared the monitoring plan and the USGS implements the plan. USGS collects samples of urban stormwater runoff at five sites in the study area. All five sites have records of discharge compiled by either USGS, The Colorado State Engineers Office, or UDFCD. Samples from at least 4 to as many as 15 storms per year are collected and analyzed for hardness, total suspended solids, nutrients, and selected total and dissolved metals. OBJECTIVES:
