BACKGROUND:

The USGS is characterizing the quality of surface-water resources in the Vallecito Reservoir watershed. The study will define the natural processes controlling the amount of nutrients in the reservoir so the effect of future population growth and development in the watershed on water quality can be documented.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To define baseline water quality of the watershed over a 4-to-5 year period.
2. To define which water quality constituents need to be monitored over the long term (10 to 20 years) as the watershed changes due to growth and development.
3. To document trends in water quality constituents and causes for the trends, if they occur.
