Ground Water Model Development Study Area: BACKGROUND:MODFLOWP is a modification of the U.S. Geological Survey's modular finite-difference ground-water flow model (MODFLOW) that allows automated parameter estimation using nonlinear regression. From the introduction of MODFLOWP to the present, MODFLOW and MODFLOWP have been distinct computer codes, which differ substantially in ease of use and in ease of modification. Although numerous capabilities have been added to MODFLOW, the addition of support for estimating parameters related to the new capabilities has not kept pace, primarily because of the difficulties associated with adding new parameter-estimation capabilities to MODFLOWP in its present version. The degree of difficulty is due partly to the nonmodular structure of MODFLOWP. The project is a combined effort by the USGS Office of Ground Water, the National Research Program, and the Colorado District. Download the latest release, MODFLOW-2000, from: OBJECTIVES:To produce and document a computer code that combines the modularity of MODFLOW and the parameter-estimation capabilities of MODFLOWP. The resulting program has been documented and released as MODFLOW-2000. Current efforts include provision of support for users of MODFLOW-2000 and preparation of a Programmer Guide. |
