Sediment Stations in Colorado

Study Area: Statewide
Period of Project: Ongoing
Project Number: CO004
Project Chief: co.data
Cooperator: Multiple

BACKGROUND:

Water-resource planning and water-quality assessment require a nationwide base level of relatively standardized information. Sediment concentrations and discharges in rivers and streams must be defined and monitored.

OBJECTIVES:

This project provides a national data base of sediment data for use in broad Federal, State, and local planning and action programs and it provides data for Federal management of interstate and international waters. Data collected at these sediment stations are used to determine spatial and temporal averages, trends in sediment concentration and discharge, and particle size of sediment being transported by rivers and streams.
