Mercury Distribution in Water, Streambed Sediment, and Fish
Map of Study Location
- Objectives:
Determine the current level of mercury bioaccumulation
in gamefish species in urban, mining, agricultural, and reference
areas.
Determine the level of mercury exposure to gamefish
in stream ecosystems representing the four land-use types.
- Approach:
Eight sites have been selected representing urban,
mining, agriculture, and reference conditions. The sites will be sampled
once for fish tissue, streambed sediment, and stream-water quality.
- Timing:
Each site will be visited once during the first
two weeks of August 2002.
- Targeted Constituents:
Fish tissue will be analyzed for total mercury.
Stream water and streambed sediment will be analyzed for methylmercury
and total mercury.
