Characterization of Community Water Supplies
- Objectives:
Determine the relation between contaminant sources
in the area upstream from a community drinking-water intake and the
concentrations of these contaminants at the intake.
Compare the occurrence of contaminants in the raw
water supply with those found in the treated water supply.
- Approach:
One stream site will be sampled during the first
year. The site will represent a large percentage of the water used
for public water supply in a community in the South Platte River Basin.
Treated water from the community’s drinking-water treatment plant
will be sampled during the second year.
- Timing:
Sampling of the raw water will take place between
October 2002 and September 2003. Sampling of the treated water will
take place between October 2003 and September 2004.
- Targeted Constituents:
Dissolved organic carbon, pesticides, pharmaceutical
compounds, fuel oxygenates, volatile organic compounds, and e. coli
bacteria.
