Regional Transect Study - northern High Plains

The northern High Plains aquifer is the primary source of water for domestic,
industrial, and irrigation uses in parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
The average saturated thickness of the aquifer in the Nebraska Sand Hills region was approximately
520 feet in 2000 and the average depth to water was 90 feet. In 2003, 19 nested monitoring wells at 5
locations in the Sand Hills region of Nebraska
(see map) were completed at various depths in the aquifer
(report in press).
Water samples were collected from each well in 2003 and 2004 to measure vertical gradients in water chemistry in the aquifer. Click on a site below to view water-quality data. You may retrieve the entire data set by clicking below. Sites are from south to north.
