Urban Land-Use Study - Arkansas R. alluvial deposits, Wichita, Kansas, central High Plains
|
Water samples from 30 randomly selected monitoring wells
completed in the Arkansas River alluvium in Wichita, Kansas in the central High Plains area were collected as
part of the High Plains Regional Ground-Water Study conducted by the U.S.
Geological Survey's National Water-Quality Assessment Program. The samples
were analyzed for about 170 water-quality constituents, including chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs),
physical properties, dissolved solids and major ions, nutrients and dissolved organic carbon, trace
elements, pesticide compounds, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The
purpose of this study was to provide an assessment of water quality in recharge to shallow ground
water underlying areas of recent residential and commercial development, Wichita, Kansas,
and to relate, to the extent possible, ground-water quality to overlying land use
(see interpretive report; WRIR 02-4228).
