1) Measure vertical gradients in
the ground-water chemistry and age of water in the Ogallala Formation; 2) Develop an understanding of ground-water
residence times and recharge rates in the Ogallala Formation; and 3) Provide a better
understanding of contaminant sources/sinks in the Ogallala Formation.
Approach:
Install and sample nested wells at 2
sites having large saturated thicknesses
(see map). Locate and sample 2 existing wells screened near
the water table. Locate and sample 2 existing wells screened in the underlying Dockum Group.
Timing:
Drilling begins May, 2001; sampling in July 2001.
Targeted Constituents:
Physical parameters, major ions, nutrients,
trace elements, radon, pesticides, VOC's,
DOC, and selected chemical and isotopic constituents
needed to address the above objectives.
