Major Aquifer
Study: Ogallala Formation - northern High Plains (cont.)
Objective:
To provide a broad-scale assessment of ground-water quality in the northern
High Plains aquifer (Ogallala Formation) primarily in Nebraska.
Approach:
Randomly select 132 potential domestic-supply wells (see
map) to compose the Ogallala Formation Major Aquifer Study in the northern
High Plains. This study was split into 3 parts that will take 3 years to
complete. The sampling density will be the same for all parts of the Ogallala
Formation Major Aquifer Study, one sample per 500 square miles. Each well
will be sampled once for a suite of chemical constituents.
Timing:
2004 UPDATE: Third and final phase (Part III) of well selection took place in 2004.
2005 PLANNED: Data analysis and report writing.
Targeted Constituents:
Physical parameters, major ions, nutrients, trace elements, pesticides,
dissolved organic carbon, VOC's, tritium, and radon.
