Major Aquifer Study: Ogallala Formation - northern High Plains
Objective:
To provide a broad-scale assessment of ground-water quality
in the northern High Plains aquifer (Ogallala Formation)
primarily in Nebraska.
Approach:
Randomly select and sample 55 out of a possible 132 domestic
supply wells (see map) that compose the initial part of this study. The
sampling density will be the same for all parts of the
Ogallala Formation Major Aquifer Study, one sample per 500
square miles. Each well will be sampled once for a suite of
chemical constituents.
Timing:
Sampling begins May, 2002.
Targeted Constituents:
Physical parameters, major ions, nutrients, trace elements,
pesticides, dissolved organic carbon, VOC's, tritium, and
radon.
