NEW PROJECTS
USGS water program activities related to traditional tight gas extraction and Oil Shale: The Piceance Structural Basin is undergoing large-scale energy development, creating potential for short and long-term changes in surface- and ground-water resources. In partnership with industry and local and state governments, USGS will produce a comprehensive water resource assessment by compiling and synthesizing historic and current water-resource data sets, publications, and other materials. Products will include a dynamic publicly-accessible quality-assured data repository and a USGS report of baseline conditions and data gaps.
OTHER NEWS
Call for papers: Third Interagency Conference on Research in the Watersheds (ICRW): Planning for an Uncertain Future: Monitoring, Integration, and Adaptation is being organized by the U.S. Geological Survey and will be held 8-11 September 2008 in Estes Park, Colorado. Deadline for initial abstracts is May 2. http://www.hydrologicscience.org/icrw
